True That

Cynthia Tucker gets one right in this Yahoo! column. (Incidentally, my brother had this story over at AMillionMonkeys more than a week ago.)

Now, someone please tell me, was the woman 92 or 'merely' 88? Just curious.

Also, according to Headline News at lunch today, Al Sharpton is on the case. So, all should be resolved favorably and soon.

You're talkin' 'bout my town. It's a heartbreaking story.

Beth: This story is heartbreaking. It's especially so, when taken as truly emblematic of our nation's failed drug policies, which it is. If my grandmother lived in a poor, primarily black, inner-city Atlanta (or Chicago or New York or L.A. or D.C. or Miami or St. Louis or...) neighborhood, this could've been her. Even if the lady didn't own a gun, who's to say she wouldn't have had a fear-induced coronary? What kind of country is this when little, old ladies are dying in the act of protecting their homes from unannounced intruders, all because an undercover cop allegedly bought a dimebag of pot, couple rocks of crack, or whatever?!!!

I haven't had a chance to read Cynthia Tucker's column yet, so I don't know how much you know. So:

1. The woman's neighborhood has become a drug center, so she was scared to death of anyone coming to her house. Neighbors would pick up groceriers for her, but she was too afraid to let them in, so they'd leeave them on the porch for her to get later. Think of the FEAR that poor woman felt when those policemen burst through her door. Five of her six bullets hit, though; good shot.

2. The informant later recanted and admitted he'd never bought drugs there. They need to go after him, too.

3. The feds are now investigating. Serious shit about to rain down.

Yes, that hit the news fast down here. All were horrified! I know in Savannah old people have been busted for drug dealing and it was in fact, true. BUT, they were not shot. There are so many layers to this that I think they will be a while unsnarling it.
